Monthly Archives: December 2011

Over the past few weeks I have been working on a video for my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor Andre. This video is the first of two videos that will hopefully be finished before I go back to Eastern in a week. The focus of this video is on striking and the next video will focus on Jiu Jitsu. The video was shot at Torres Martial Arts in Hammond, IN. I shot the video mostly with a 50mm 1.8 but for a few shots I used the 28mm 2.8 and my 5d Mark II. I really like the look of the 28 in the video and realized that I have definitely under used it in some of my previous assignments.

My online portfolio of still images can be seen by clicking right here and at the bottom of the page in the footer. Here are a few of the photos.

Sophomore wing Cara Hahne tugs on the jersey of a Northern Iowa rugby player during Eastern Illinois University’s 24-5 victory at Lakeside Field Oct. 23, 2011.

Beth Niemerg, a freshman biology major, served in the United States Army to pay for school. She decided to come back without any of her transferrable credits previously earned because she wanted her time at Eastern to be a new start.

Senior community health major Julie Huck waits as Johnny Wilder, owner of Poor Boys Tattoo and Piercings in Charleston, Ill., finishes her tattoo Oct. 1, 2011. Huck has been working on her tattoo on and off for four years.

First wrestling meet during my break

This is the first of five Thornwood high school wrestling meets of my winter break. My brother Tyler, the one in the yellow and blue head gear that is currently falling off, won the match against a Stagg high school wrestler. Tyler was able to get the pin in the second round. The win moved his record to 10-0 for the season. Since Eastern doesn’t have a wrestling team it’s nice to shoot a different sport over break. Over the course of my time off from school I’m going to try to get a little more creative when it comes to shooting wrestling. Hopefully there will be a few more dynamic photos in the future.

Women’s basketball team takes win over Western Illinois

My first women’s basketball game of the year turned out to be a pretty relaxing game to shoot. Above, junior guard Ta’Kenya Nixon makes her way around a Western Illinois player during Eastern’s 85-55 win Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, in Lantz Arena.

Western Illinois senior forward Brittany Demery looks back at the referee after fouling an Eastern player during the second half of the game.

Eastern head coach Brady Sallee speaks with the team before the second half of play. Going into the second half Eastern was leading Western 43-24.

Eastern fans stretch for aWii game during half time. a Wii was also given out during halftime, and during the last two men’s games a Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 were given out.

Christmas in the Heart of Charleston

This was my first night shoot with the 5d Mark II. It didn’t turn out as well as I would have hoped, but it was still good practice. I used a 50mm 1.8, shotgun mic and a tripod for the whole event.

It was also my first time going to Christmas in the Heart of Charleston. As one of the women mentions in the video, the Square seems to have lost its charm, especially for college students. Getting students to experience Charleston off campus is something that Eastern should continue to focus on.
