With the high school sports season quickly approaching in August here are some of my favorite sports photos from my first few months at the Herald & Review.
My first week of baseball, better known as Aceball here, of the summer. The games went as well as any could in terms of photo opportunities. Although I wasn’t on the top of my game at catching them.
There were a few great moments that I missed by a frame or two, but I’ll have plenty of time to make up for that throughout the summer.
It’s pretty easy to navigate through the stadium and stands. As long as I’m not blocking a camera or person I can pretty much shoot from where ever I want.
The only major challenge was the sun, which baked me throughout the first game. The same mistake was not made later in the week because I went and bought myself a nice big hat.
Here are a few of my favorites from the Reno Aces’ series against the Tacoma Rainiers.

Reno Aces fans cheer as Mike Jacobs makes his way back to the dugout after scoring a run against the Tacoma Rainiers Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Aces Ballpark.
Aces second baseman Jake Elmore tags out Rainiers catcher Guillermo Quiroz as he slides into second during a double play Friday, June 1, 2012, at Aces Ballpark.
Mike Jacobs breaks a bat when he comes into contact with the ball Wednesday, May, 30, 2012, during the Aces’ game against the Rainiers at the Aces Ballpark.
Since I’ve been shooting so much baseball recently I’m trying to get more than just the passable action photo. There are a few shots I’ve been playing around with that I think could look great if I get the timing and angle down.
I have a whole summer of shooting the Aces ahead of me so I will only be posting weekly updates from the games. Especially since the majority of Aces games are at night, and I’m just plain tired when I get home from work.
After gathering all my images from the past semester I was able to add some to my portfolio. Here are a few of the updates that I haven’t already posted on the blog. You can click here to see my whole portfolio.
