As my four years at Eastern come to an end tried my hand at producing a more intricate multimedia piece than I’m used to. I decided to take an independent study during this last semester, and the result was a multimedia piece on a Shannon McElmeel, a cellist at Eastern. The video was put together with three different parts. The audio from the interview, photos from practice, and the video of her playing.
Aside from scheduling problems, since we both had very busy semesters, putting the video together wasn’t as difficult as I thought. Part of that is because I switched from Final Cut Express to Adobe Premiere Pro.
Monday’s women’s basketball game against UT Martin was one of the more exciting games this semester in terms of photography. I can usually come away from a game with a few good reaction photos, but yesterday seemed like a gold mine. It’s always exciting covering a game that keeps you on your toes, and I think I came out of the game with some decent photos. After looking at the photos, it also looked like some lights were replaced in Lantz Arena because the lighting was better than usual. For the full story check out Alex McNamee’s story in the Daily Eastern News here.
The Eastern women’s basketball team fought against Bradley University Monday night but came up one point short in the final seconds losing 66-65 in Lantz Arena.
The Panthers return to the court Nov. 19 in Lantz Arena against San Jose State. For another view of the game check out Zachary White’s blog, and for the full story head over to The Daily Eastern News.
Football coach Dino Babers led the team to an OVC championship during a season dubbed the New Era by Eastern athletics. Eastern came into their game against Southeast-Missouri State 5-1 in conference play, and claimed the OVC title outright after UT Martin lost to Tennessee Tech. Eastern defeated SEMO 39-20 Saturday at O’Brien Field.
The Panthers have one more regular season game against Central Arkansas on Nov. 17, before they move on to the playoffs.
After gathering all my images from the past semester I was able to add some to my portfolio. Here are a few of the updates that I haven’t already posted on the blog. You can click here to see my whole portfolio.

The calls were both confirmed to be called in by a CHS student and not true.

Eastern ROTC conducted an Aviation Lab on Eastern’s campus Thursday, March 22, 2012. The cadets had a safety briefing before boarding the helicopter, and the lab consisted of three 10 minute flights around Charleston, Ill., in a CH-47 Chinook.

The photographers I work with at The Daily Eastern News and the Warbler have been working on turning these assignments into something more than a photo or two in the paper. Keep on the lookout for more creative photo galleries, in-depth photo essays, and videos. For more photos of this event click here to check out the Soundslide that I put together with Zachary White.
After a week of building, Habitat for Humanity volunteers managed to make headway on their Charleston, Ill., home. The build week started on Saturday, March 10, 2012 with a blitz build day. The interior walls, exterior walls, beginning stages of electrical and half of the trusses were put up by the end of the day.
Monday March 12 started the first full week of building that continued through Saturday March 19. Building will continue every Saturday until the house is finished.
Here are a few images from the photo essay I am doing on the Habitat for Humanity blitz build this week. Some students decided to stay in Charleston over spring break to work on the house. The first day was Saturday, March 10, and the building will continue on Monday. The volunteers will be working from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m everyday this week including Saturday. I will have a multimedia piece on Sunday putting everything together.
